AUTO MELTING POINT APPARATUS MODEL 1934:
The Auto Melting Point Apparatus Model 1934, manufactured by Electronics India (EI), is a high-performance scientific instrument specifically engineered for the accurate determination of the melting point temperature of crystalline samples held within capillary tubes. This instrument utilises the latest microcontroller technology and advanced engineering techniques to ensure high accuracy and excellent reproducibility in pharmaceutical, chemical research, and material science applications. Designed for ease of use, the system features a microcontroller-based digital display for accurate results and intuitive soft touch membrane type keys for straightforward operation.
Advanced Features and Operation:
This apparatus is equipped with several advanced features that streamline the measurement process and enhance accuracy:
Programmable Temperature Control
The system allows for fully programmable control over the heating cycle using dedicated ‘Plateau’ and ‘Ramp’ keys. The user can set a Plateau Temperature a few degrees below the expected melting point. The apparatus heats rapidly to this programmed plateau temperature. Once reached, it then switches to heating slowly at the Programmable Ramp Rate (adjustable on a scale of 1 to 10) until the sample melt occurs. This precise two-stage heating prevents sample overheating and ensures highly accurate measurements.
Measurement and Data Management:
The core measurement involves holding the sample capillary inside a heating chamber, which contains an aluminium heating block. The block is heated, and the temperature is displayed digitally. The final melting point is indicated by an ‘END’ LED accompanied by an intermittent audible beep.
For effective data management, the apparatus offers storage capacity for up to 100 results (melting point temperatures) using the ‘Store/Recall’ key. These results are retained in the instrument’s memory even when the power is switched off. System status is clearly indicated via various Status LEDs, including PLATEAU, °C, RAMP, RUN, END, READY, and RECALL.
Safety and Maintenance:
The instrument prioritises operational safety and maintenance through built-in features such as a Quick Cooling with Integrated Fan. Additionally, if a sample capillary tube accidentally breaks inside the heating chamber, the user can easily flush the broken piece using the ‘Normal’/’Clean’ rotary switch located on the right side of the instrument.
