Product Overview:
The ATAGO PAL-S is a highly precise digital handheld refractometer designed to provide stable, consistent measurement results for even the most challenging food samples. This instrument belongs to the acclaimed PAL™ Series, changing traditional conceptions of refractometers through its compact size, ergonomic design, and powerful performance. The PAL-S (Cat. No. 3860) is ideally suited for quality control both in the field and the laboratory.
Revolutionary Mode S™ Technology:
The distinguishing feature of the PAL-S is its exclusive Mode S™ Technology, which serves as the solution to fluctuating measurement values. Traditional refractometers often struggle to provide reliable readings when faced with samples that are opaque, fatty, dark, cloudy, or emulsions.
Mode S™ was developed specifically to address this issue by incorporating a new algorithm that minimizes fluctuations. This feature improves the repeatability of samples that typically cause inconsistent results. The PAL-S analyzes the measurement stability internally and displays consistent readings digitally, eliminating the user frustration of guessing the reading from a blurry boundary line or repeatedly performing measurements to calculate an average.
Ideal Applications:
• Dairy Products (milk, yogurt, ice cream, condensed milk)
• Fatty and/or Dark Samples
• Cloudy or Emulsion Samples
• Soy Milk
Designed for Performance and Usability:
Robust and Hygienic Design: The PAL-S is light and compact, weighing only 100g, and is ergonomically designed for comfortable one-handed operation. Its structure supports the standards of HACCP, GMP, and GLP. Furthermore, the unit boasts an IP65 International Protection Class, meaning it is dust-tight and protected against water jets, allowing the sample stage to be easily rinsed clean under running water. The sample stage design also helps prevent spills.
Fast and Accurate Measurement: Measurement requires a minimal sample volume of just 2–3 drops (at least 0.3mL) and typically delivers a Brix value in approximately three seconds. The unit features one-touch measurement and allows for calibration using only water (Zero calibration).
Temperature Management: The instrument features an Automatic Temperature Compensation (ATC) function across a wide range of 10 to 100°C, ensuring accurate Brix readings regardless of the varying sample temperature. It can measure high-temperature samples up to boiling point (100°C). For users measuring hot samples, the PAL-S includes the MAGIC™ adaptor (included), which is used to cool down hot samples quickly and minimize evaporation, aiding measurement stability.
Extended Features: The PAL-S is equipped with the External Light Interference (ELI) feature (Patent Pending), which protects against inaccurate measurements that can occur when intense direct light penetrates the prism, ensuring consistent results even when used outdoors.
