Sartorius Density Determination Kit (Model YDK03)

The Sartorius YDK03 Density Determination Kit is an essential, high-quality accessory designed to complement your electronic laboratory balance, streamlining your daily workload. This accessory allows for precise determination of density and specific gravity using the fundamental Archimedean principle.

Compatibility and Installation

The YDK03 kit is specifically designed for use with Sartorius balances that have high sensitivity, featuring readabilities of 0.1 mg or 1 mg (0.0001 g or 0.001 g).
Compatible balance series include:
Secura®
Quintix®
Practum®
Entris® II (BCA/BCE models)
CPA
BSA (for 0.1 mg readability models)
The kit facilitates installation with model-specific adapters:
Adapter "1" is provided for Secura®, Quintix®, and Practum® balances (1 mg or 0.1 mg readability).
Adapter "2" is provided for CPA analytical balances (0.1 mg readability).
Adapter "3" is for BSA analytical balances (0.1 mg readability).
Adapter "4" is for Entris analytical balances (0.1 mg readability).
Note: Use of the density kit generally results in a reduction of the balance's maximum capacity, commonly reducing capacity by 60g, suggesting it is best used with balances of 220g capacity or more.

Determination Methods and Components

The YDK03 kit supports three primary methods for determining specific gravity or density:
1. Specific Gravity of Solids (Density > Liquid Density): This method utilizes the large 90 mm diameter beaker and the sample holder assembly (pan hanger).
2. Specific Gravity of Solids (Density < 1 g/cm³): This method uses the 90 mm diameter beaker, replacing the sample holder assembly with the specialized sieve for immersing samples.
3. Density of Liquids: This method uses the smaller 55 mm diameter beaker and the glass plummet, which has a precisely defined volume of 10 cm³.
All methods involve calculation based on the difference between the weight of the sample in air, $W(a)$, and its weight in the liquid, $W(fl)$, which determines the buoyancy ($G = W(a) - W(fl)$). The kit includes a thermometer to measure the liquid temperature, which is essential for correcting the liquid density value $\rho(fl)$ during calculation.
