Dual Scale Versatility This instrument features a dual scale system, accommodating both oil and sugar measurements. It includes a dedicated Oil Scale (also known as the Butyro scale) and a separate Sugar Scale, allowing for flexible application across different material types.
Precision Measurement The refractometer is engineered for high accuracy, particularly when measuring materials typically analysed using the Butyro scale, such as oils, fats, and waxes. The scale divisions are subdivided by a micrometer screw, enabling extremely precise measurements of the refractive index down to 0.0001.
Optimised for Sample Integrity The design incorporates a horizontal prism face. This crucial feature prevents viscous samples, like oils and fats, from draining away or evaporating easily, ensuring stability during the measurement process.
Advanced Temperature and Colour Control The prism box is water jacketed to maintain close temperature control, which is essential for accurate readings of sugar solutions, reliably operating in the range of 15°C to 30°C. Furthermore, a temperature correction device is included to eliminate errors caused by temperature fluctuations when measuring sugar solutions. The instrument also employs a simple achromatizing device to remove color from the critical angle border line, ensuring clarity and enabling use with standard white light.
Measurement Flexibility The instrument supports both transmitted light, suitable for transparent solutions, and reflected light, which is ideal when working with dark or semi-opaque substances. The unique shutter mechanism allows for internal reflection measurements, particularly beneficial for samples of high optical density or those containing hard particles (such as pips) that might prevent the prism box from closing completely.
