The Shimadzu AUW220D is a dual-range semi-micro analytical balance from the AUW-D series. This model is recognized as one of the world's first five-decimal balances utilizing the advantages of UniBloc one-piece force cell technology. It delivers excellent weighing performance, stability, and fast response, specifically engineered for highly precise laboratory measurements.

Core UniBloc Technology

The foundation of the AUW220D’s reliability is the newly-improved UniBloc mechanism. UniBloc is an aluminum integrated mass sensor, created using high-precision electric discharge wire processing applied to a single block of aluminum alloy. This replaces the conventional electro-magnetic sensor assembly.

This compact, uniform structure ensures stable temperature characteristics, excellent response time, and stable corner-load performance. The UniBloc design allows for a high consistency of production, assuring long operational life and reliability. The improved mechanism and digital processing technology simultaneously offer the operator fast response and stability.

Advanced Internal Calibration System

The AUW220D features Internal Calibration with a built-in, motor-driven calibration weight. The operator can choose from two types of fully-automatic span calibration methods:

1. PSC (Perfect Self Calibration): This function detects variations in the ambient temperature that can influence accuracy and automatically performs calibration to compensate for these changes.

2. Clock-CAL (Calibration at user pre-set times): This allows the balance to automatically perform calibration at pre-set times, up to three times a day (for example, before starting work, during a lunch break, or after work).

Additionally, the span calibration can be performed at any time by pressing a single button (one-button calibration), or an external calibration weight can be used if preferred.

Data Management and Compliance

The balance supports high levels of quality assurance and traceability required by GLP/GMP/ISO9000:

• GLP/GMP/ISO Calibration Report: When connected to an optional electronic printer, the balance can automatically output a calibration report including the date, time, serial number, and ID.

• WindowsDirect Function: This unique feature allows measurement results to be transmitted directly to PC applications such as Excel or other Windows programs. All that is required is an RS-232C cable, eliminating the need for additional software installation.

• Interval Timer: Weighed data can be automatically output to external devices at time intervals specified by the user, ranging from 1 second up to 99 minutes and 59 seconds.

• RS-232 I/F (Interface) is a standard input/output terminal.

Application Support and User-Friendly Features

The AUW220D is equipped with numerous standard features to support complex laboratory tasks:

• Dual-Range Weighing: The semi-micro models provide dual-range weighing capabilities.

• Specific Gravity Measurement: Specific gravity measurement software is pre-installed, and the balance can be transformed into a dedicated instrument for measuring the specific gravity of solids using an optional specific gravity kit.

• Formulation Mode and Unit Conversion: Standard functions include piece counting, percentage display, and measurement results displayed in a variety of mass units, such as carat.

• Below-Weigh Hook: A hook is provided as standard for hanging measurements that cannot be performed within the weighing chamber.

• Display: The unit features a backlit display, allowing use even under poor lighting conditions, and an analog bar graph display which helps the operator monitor how much capacity remains before the limit is reached.

• Ergonomics: The aluminum die-cast housing provides lasting high quality and protection of the core mechanism. The user-friendly weighing chamber has large dimensions for easy measurement of tall flasks, and the doors can be detached for easy cleaning. Level adjustment is simplified via an easy-to-view level gauge and large level screws located at the front of the balance.
