The Lutron Model SL-4001 Sound Level Meter is a professional instrument designed for high accuracy sound level measurement, adhering to IEC 651 type 2 standards. Advanced Measurement Capabilities:
The SL-4001 offers versatile operational functions including A and C frequency weighting, Max. hold, and selectable Fast and Slow time weighting modes.
 
• Frequency Weighting:
    ◦ A Weighting: This characteristic is simulated to match the "Human Ear Listing" response and is typically selected when making environmental sound level measurements.
    ◦ C Weighting: This characteristic is near the "FLAT" response, making it suitable for checking the noise of machinery (Quality Control checks) and determining the sound pressure level of tested equipment.
 
• Time Weighting (Fast & Slow):
    ◦ Fast (t = 200 ms): Simulates the human ear response time weighting.
    ◦ Slow (t = 500 ms): Makes it easier to obtain the average values of vibration sound level.
 
• High Accuracy Microphone: The unit utilizes an electric condenser microphone (1/2 inch standard size) known for its high accuracy and long-term stability.
 
• Calibration: The meter includes a built-in adjustable VR for easy external calibration using a screw driver, supported by an internal oscillation system generating a 1 KHz sine wave.
 
System Integration and Display:
 
The SL-4001 features an 18mm (0.7") LCD display (3 1/2 digits) which provides a clear read-out even in bright ambient light conditions and features low power consumption. Essential functions include a Max. Hold feature to store the maximum measured value on display, and a warning indicator for over and under load conditions.
For system expansion, the unit provides AC/DC output capabilities via a 3.5 phone output terminal. This allows connection to an analyzer, level recorder, or tape recorder for data logging and detailed analysis.
