Lutron SL-4012 Digital Sound Level Meter:

The Lutron SL-4012 Digital Sound Level Meter is a high-accuracy, sturdy handheld instrument designed for precision measurement across various industrial and environmental applications. This complex yet lightweight device allows for comfortable one-hand operation, making it ideal for professionals requiring reliable sound level checks.

Product Overview:

The SL-4012 is a professional sound level meter featuring a large LCD display for easy readability, even in bright ambient light conditions. It is engineered with durable, long-lasting components, encased in a strong, lightweight ABS-plastic housing case. The main functions of the meter are designed to meet standards such as IEC 651 Type 2 and IEC 61672 Type 2 for frequency weighting networks.

Key Features and Functionality:

Advanced Measurement:
The meter offers a wide measurement range of 30 dB to 130 dB. It supports both Auto Range and Manual Range selection, allowing users to choose from three fixed ranges for focused testing. The device incorporates essential functions including standard dB measurement with A & C frequency weighting networks. A-weighting is simulated as the "Human Ear Listing" response, typically selected for environmental sound level measurements, while C-weighting is closer to a "FLAT" response, suitable for checking machinery noise or sound pressure levels.

Data Handling and Output:
The SL-4012 includes Hold and Memory functions to store both Maximum (Max.) and Minimum (Min.) measured values, as well as a Peak Hold function to capture the maximum sound level. The meter features a built-in RS232 computer interface for connecting to a PC and an AC output for system expansion, allowing integration with external level recorders or sound analyzers.

Design and Calibration:
Equipped with a high-accuracy, long-term stability 0.5-inch standard electric condenser microphone. Time weighting functions (Fast and Slow) meet IEC 651 Type 2 requirements; the Fast response (t=200 ms) simulates human ear reaction time, while the Slow response (t=500 ms) helps obtain average values of vibration sound level. Calibration is made easy with a built-in external calibration VR, adjustable to 94 dB level using a screwdriver. The device also includes low battery and overload/underrange indicator alerts.

Ideal Applications:

This Digital Sound Level Meter is a versatile tool widely employed across various fields, including:
Environmental Monitoring: Checking noise pollution levels near highways, construction zones, and residential areas.
Industrial Safety: Monitoring noise levels near heavy machinery (like compressors or stamping lines) in manufacturing industries to ensure compliance with safety regulations.
Quality Control: Checking the noise levels of mechanical equipment, vehicles, and ships, and ensuring the sound pressure level of tested equipment meets quality standards.
Research and Laboratories: Used in office environments and R&D labs requiring precision sound level measurements.
