Measurement Principle:
 
The Model 331 Digital Turbidity Meter functions based on the principle of light scattering. When a sample solution containing suspended particles is placed within the instrument, a light source emits a focused beam through the sample contained in a clear glass test tube.
The particles within the solution scatter the light, which is then detected by a highly sensitive photocell or photodiode detector positioned at a right angle (90 degrees) to the focused light path. The intensity of this scattered light is directly proportional to the turbidity level of the sample. This measurement is then amplified and instantaneously displayed on the digital screen, providing the turbidity level in NTU.
