Bluelab Soil pH Pen (Model PENSOILPH)
The Bluelab Soil pH Pen is an accurate, robust, and compact handheld meter designed specifically for growers to effortlessly measure both pH and temperature directly in a variety of growing media and solutions. This indispensable tool ensures your plants receive optimal conditions for growth by providing quick and convenient insights into the root zone environment, eliminating the need for complex soil slurries. Proudly designed and manufactured in New Zealand, the Bluelab Soil pH Pen is a trusted instrument for achieving improved crop yields.
Key Features and Benefits
• Dual Measurement Capability: This pen accurately measures both pH and temperature, providing essential data for effective management of your nutrient solutions and growing media.
• Full-Range pH Coverage: Offering a comprehensive pH measurement range of 0.0 to 14.0 pH with a resolution of 0.1 pH, it is suitable for a wide array of agricultural and laboratory applications.
• Automatic Temperature Compensation (ATC): The device automatically adjusts pH readings based on temperature, ensuring consistent accuracy across an operating temperature range of 0 to 50 °C (32 to 122 °F). Temperature units are selectable between Celsius and Fahrenheit.
• Simple and Reliable Calibration: Featuring an easy two-point calibration process using pH 7.0 and 4.0 (or 10.0) solutions, the pen includes a convenient 30-day calibration reminder to maintain long-term accuracy. A checkmark on the display confirms successful calibration.
• Bright Backlit LCD Display: The large, backlit LCD display offers excellent readability, even in low-light conditions, allowing for quick and effortless viewing of measurements.
• Rugged and Fully Waterproof Design: Engineered for durability in demanding growing environments, the Bluelab Soil pH Pen is fully waterproof and designed to float, making it resilient to splashes, drops, and even submersion. This allows for seamless transitions between testing soil and nutrient solutions.
• Double Junction pH Probe: Equipped with a robust double-junction pH probe (non-replaceable for this model), which helps to reduce contamination and extend the life of the probe in nutrient solutions and various growing media.
• Integrated Storage Cap/Dibber: The robust, dual-purpose storage cap serves as a dibber, allowing you to easily create a hole in your soil or media for direct root zone measurements without damaging the probe. The cap is also KCl-filled to keep the probe hydrated and ready for use.
• Convenience Functions: Includes a 'hold reading' function to easily capture stable measurements, a low battery indicator, and an auto-off function that activates after 4 minutes to conserve battery life.
• New Zealand Quality and Warranty: Designed, manufactured, and tested in New Zealand, the product comes with a 1-year limited manufacturer guarantee, reflecting its high quality and reliability.
• Ready to Use: Operates on a single AAA alkaline battery, which is included, allowing for immediate use upon receipt.
Why Measure Soil pH and Temperature?
Maintaining the correct pH and temperature in your soil, coco coir, rockwool, or nutrient solution is critical for optimal plant health and vigorous growth. Plants can only absorb essential nutrients when the solution is within their optimal pH range. If the pH becomes too acidic or too alkaline, vital nutrients become insoluble and inaccessible to the plants, severely hindering growth and potentially wasting expensive resources. Similarly, the temperature of the solution directly influences the plants' growth rate and overall structural development. By consistently monitoring these fundamental parameters with the Bluelab Soil pH Pen, you can ensure your plants receive the ideal conditions to thrive and achieve superior crop yields.
Maintenance and Care
To ensure the longevity and accuracy of your Bluelab Soil pH Pen, regular cleaning and maintenance are crucial. The probe tip must be kept moist at all times, ideally with KCl storage solution, to prevent permanent damage. After each use, rinse the probe thoroughly in clean water and replace the storage cap. For a more thorough cleaning, gently stir the probe tip in a mixture of clean water and Bluelab pH Probe Cleaner or a mild detergent, then rinse completely. Calibration is recommended after every cleaning and at least once a month. Bluelab also offers Probe Care Kits containing all the necessary solutions and tools for comprehensive cleaning, maintenance, and calibration.
