Understanding Chlorine Measurement
Free vs. Total Chlorine Lutron CL-2006 Free & Total Chlorine Meter
The CL-2006 measures both critical forms of chlorine in water:- Free Chlorine - The active disinfectant form (hypochlorous acid and hypochlorite ion) available to sanitize water
- Total Chlorine - The sum of free chlorine plus combined chlorine (chloramines formed when chlorine reacts with nitrogen compounds)
DPD Method
The CL-2006 uses the DPD (N,N-diethyl-p-phenylenediamine) colorimetric method, which is approved by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for water testing:- Free Chlorine Test - Free chlorine reacts with DPD reagent to produce a pink color proportional to concentration
- Total Chlorine Test - Uses additional reagents to measure both free and combined chlorine forms
- Accurate Quantification - The meter's 525 nm LED light source precisely measures color intensity to determine concentration
Advanced Technology Lutron CL-2006 Free & Total Chlorine Meter
The CL-2006 incorporates several technological advantages:- Narrow-Band LED Technology - Provides more accurate and repeatable readings than traditional colorimeters
