RELITECH 3-Position Combined Heating Mantle Unit (250 ml Capacity)
This RELITECH Combined Heating Unit is a specialised laboratory apparatus designed for efficiency and safety, allowing for the simultaneous heating of multiple samples. Tailored for applications requiring controlled and consistent heat, this unit features three individual heating positions, each optimized for 250 ml capacity flasks.
Core Functionality and Design
The heating mantle provides a safer alternative to traditional open flames or Bunsen burners, particularly when dealing with volatile or flammable liquids. The design features electrical heating elements embedded in an insulating fabric, typically made of glass fibre yarn.
Uniform and Precise Heating The primary function is to deliver uniform heat distribution around the flask or container. This cup-shaped form ensures consistent thermal contact and eliminates the risk of harmful hot spots that can cause glassware to shatter. The 3-Position design allows for parallel processing of samples, significantly increasing productivity in laboratory settings.
Independent Control Crucially, this specific 3-Position unit includes 3 separate regulators. This means that each of the three heating positions offers independent temperature control through individual heating knobs or electronic power regulation. Connecting the mantle to an energy regulator allows researchers to fine-tune the heat precisely for each experiment, ensuring consistency in complex chemical reactions.
Construction and Safety Features
The unit's external housing is constructed from mild steel or PU coated mild steel for durability and long-lasting performance. The internal mantle material, often glass fibre yarn, provides strong thermal insulation, protecting the glass flask from damage and maintaining a low surface temperature for user safety. This enclosed heating system insulates the heating element from the sample vessel, making it the preferred and safe choice for handling flammable solutions.
Versatile Laboratory Applications
Combined Heating Units with glass parts are versatile workhorses used across various scientific disciplines. They are suitable for heating round bottom flasks, which are typically used for specific chemical processes:
• Extraction: Ideal for solid-liquid extraction methods such as Soxhlet extraction, commonly used in the food industry for fat analysis, or general extraction of compounds from complex mixtures.
• Distillation & Reflux: Essential for distillation setups (separating components based on boiling points) and reflux experiments (maintaining constant boiling temperature during reactions).
• Chemical Synthesis: Allows researchers in organic synthesis labs and pharmaceutical research to run multiple reactions simultaneously under controlled, precise heat, increasing productivity.
• Sample Preparation: Used in environmental testing for sample digestion and extraction, and in food and beverage testing to heat and extract compounds for analysis.
